THE NIKKEI WEEKLY, published by Nikkei, Inc., is a weekly English-language business newspaper providing news, editorials and commentary about Japan. The paper selects the week's most important news about the economy, investment, business and new products reported by The Nikkei and three other Nikkei papers and seeks to assist readers' understanding of Japan by carrying in-depth analyses and comment.
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary in 2003, we revamped the format of THE NIKKEI WEEKLY, turning it into a tabloid to make it easier to read on the go. The move was commended by many readers as was the case with some major British papers that also went tabloid.
We have also been enhancing the visual appeal of the paper by using more color photos and further improving its layout.
Besides news about economic, corporate and investment trends in Japan, we also report on China and the rest of Asia, which are increasingly becoming the focus of attention of players on the global economic scene. We give particularly extensive coverage to corporate news, encompassing the global activities of companies, firms attracting wide public attention, personnel management policies, talented executives and rank-and-file employees and new products.
Economic news is often difficult for laymen to understand so THE NIKKEI WEEKLY tries to present issues of great concern as clearly as possible in easy-to-read English. We also run articles written specifically for our paper by economists and other experts.
THE NIKKEI WEEKLY is an indispensable source of information for those who operate a global business. Japanese companies use its stories to brief their corporate customers and investors abroad about the situation in Japan, while foreign firms rely on our paper when devising their marketing and investment strategies.
The paper is also used increasingly as a tool for English-language education. Nikkei Radio Broadcasting Corp. airs a program that teaches English using stories carried by THE NIKKEI WEEKLY. Articles are also used in university admission and other school tests. We hope that our paper will become of greater use to your study of the English language as well as business trends.
